Wrestling By Louis Spencer JR |

This kid is going places. Over the weekend, Matt Riddle debuted as the newest big name to sign with NXT. The Takeover debuts have become a trademark of NXT with the top signings for the promotion being shown in the crowd at the shows. Riddle is a top name on the independent circuit, but since he’s only been wrestling for about three and a half years, you might need to learn a few things about him.

Riddle, 32, is a former UFC fighter with a career record of 8-3, though he had two wins overturned to no contests due to testing positive for marijuana. After wrapping up his MMA career, he signed with the World Wrestling Network where he became the first ever WWN Champion with his reign still being the longest to date. He has also held the PWG Tag Team Titles, the Progress Atlas Championship and the Evolve Championship. Riddle is known as the King of Bros and wrestles a submission style, including a finisher called the Bromission, which is something like an abdominal stretch on the mat.

Riddle’s signing was officially confirmed over the weekend on, but according to his wife (courtesy of in a YouTube video that has since been deleted, that he was contacted by WWE back in early June. New Japan had originally sent him an e-mail about coming into the promotion, but Triple H called him and, after a thirty minute discussion, offered him a contract. Riddle passed his physical and blood work around July 20 and is expected to report to NXT in Orlando on September 4.

Here’s a little more on Riddle:

Opinion: I haven’t seen much from Riddle, but the little that I have seen is rather impressive. Riddle hasn’t even been wrestling for four years yet and is already this good. Imagine what he’s going to be like when he gets some better training and coaching behind him. That’s the kind of star you only get once in a generation, and if WWE plays its card right, he could be a very special talent.
